Planable costs $39 to $59 per workspace a month, and new posts from its API and MCP land as drafts. We ranked 12 alternatives on approvals, API, AI agents and price.

One post going out to every connected social network through SocialClaw, a Planable alternative built for AI agents and API publishing

Last reviewed: November 3, 2026 · Planable facts sourced from official materials reviewed November 3, 2026

Searching for a Planable alternative usually means one of three things:

  1. The bill grows one workspace at a time. Every client or brand is its own workspace at $39 to $59 a month, each with its own post cap. Five brands on Pro cost 5 × $59 = $295 a month before a single add-on.
  2. Your AI writes the posts, and a person still ships them. Planable's MCP connector, ChatGPT app and public API all create new posts as drafts: perfect for client sign-off, slow when an agent runs the calendar.
  3. You publish where Planable does not. Reddit, Discord, Telegram and WordPress are not on its nine-network list.

Most roundups answer the first point with another approval tool, which trims the invoice and leaves the drafts where they were.

Here is how the alternatives actually rank, by who owns the publish path: a client who signs off, a team working a calendar, or an agent running code.

What Is Planable?

Planable is a content planning and approval tool for agencies and brand teams. It prices by workspace (one client, brand or location with its own pages, calendar and approval flow), and users are unlimited, so clients and legal can review without a seat each.

From its official pricing page (reviewed November 3, 2026):

PlanMonthlyYearly (per month)Posts per workspace / monthSocial pages per workspaceApproval typesDeveloper access
Basic$39$33604None, OptionalMCP connector
Pro$59$4915010None, Optional, RequiredMCP connector, public API
EnterpriseCustomCustomUnlimited50Multi-levelMCP connector, public API
  • Add-ons, per workspace per month: Analytics $14, Social inbox $9, Social listening $99. Enterprise includes analytics and the inbox.
  • Free start: the first 50 posts are free, with no time limit and no card (trial accounts cannot publish to X).
  • Networks: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, Google Business Profile and Threads, plus Universal Content for reviewing newsletters, blog posts and ads.

The review experience is where Planable earns its following. A client sees the post as it will look in the feed, comments, highlights a phrase or suggests an edit, and Required approval on Pro blocks publishing until someone signs off. For teams where every post needs a yes, Planable is honestly very good at that job.

Its AI story is current, too: an MCP connector on every plan, "an official app in ChatGPT's Apps directory" in Planable's words, and a REST API on Pro.

Where Planable falls short is the moment software tries to finish the job. Its MCP guide says: "It creates drafts, not published posts." Its API guide: "Posts created via API land as drafts." The ChatGPT app can approve or publish an existing post if your role allows it, but cannot reliably attach images or video yet, and API v1 has no webhooks.

For client work, that design is deliberate and right. When an agent owns the calendar, it is the bottleneck.

Why Teams Look for Planable Alternatives

Teams rarely leave Planable over the review screen. They hit one of these walls:

Pricing per workspace

Every client adds $39 to $59 a month, each capped at 60 posts (Basic) or 150 (Pro).

Drafts by design

New posts from the MCP connector, ChatGPT app and API start as drafts. A person moves them to the schedule.

API on Pro only

Basic has no public API, so a script or nightly job needs $59 per workspace a month.

Media through the AI app

Images and video cannot be attached reliably from ChatGPT yet.

Nine networks

Reddit, Discord, Telegram, WordPress and Bluesky are not on Planable's list.

If the second card is yours, a cheaper approval tool will not help. You need a tool where an approved plan can actually run.

#1 SocialClaw: Best Planable Alternative for AI Agents

SocialClaw connects AI agents to social publishing across X, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok and more
SocialClaw connects AI agents to social publishing across X, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok and more

Overall Rating: 9.4 / 10

SocialClaw puts a REST API, a CLI and an MCP server on every plan from $15 a month, with no per-workspace or per-seat line. Planable's public API starts on Pro at $59 per workspace a month, and the posts it creates land as drafts.

SocialClaw is the best Planable alternative when an AI agent, a script or your own product does the publishing. It is a social publishing control plane: one hosted workspace that the dashboard, REST API, CLI, MCP server, Claude plugin and ChatGPT app all drive against the same accounts and rules.

SocialClaw inverts Planable's shape. Planable is an approval room where software may leave drafts and people decide what ships. SocialClaw is an execution layer where the plan is checked by machine, then runs, and every result is on record. The human check moves from each post to the plan.

What makes SocialClaw different

  • Every surface on every plan: dashboard, REST API, CLI, hosted or local MCP server, Claude Code skill and an official ChatGPT app
  • CLI first: one of the first social media schedulers to ship a CLI
  • The validate → apply → inspect loop: check a schedule, run it, then look up each run, post and attempt by ID
  • Hosted media: upload once, reuse a stable public URL on every network
  • 12 networks: X, LinkedIn (profiles and company pages), Instagram (Business and standalone professional), Threads, Facebook Pages, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, Pinterest, WordPress, Discord and Telegram

Why SocialClaw wins when software publishes

Planable is not behind on AI, and neither are most tools on this list. "Works with ChatGPT" separates nobody anymore. What happens after the agent presses send does.

Problem 1: The agent's work stops at drafts. Your agent writes next week's 20 posts across three brands. Planable files every one as a draft, and someone opens each workspace to push them onto the schedule.

SocialClaw fix: apply schedules posts for real. The agent runs socialclaw apply -f schedule.json --json, or the matching API or MCP call, and the posts are queued on every connected account.

Problem 2: Media needs a person. Planable's ChatGPT guide says the app does not reliably attach images or video yet. The agent hands over a link, or a person adds the media later.

SocialClaw fix: Hosted media upload. The agent runs socialclaw assets upload --file <path> --json once and reuses the stable public URL on every network.

Problem 3: The check is built for a reviewer's eyes. Planable's feed preview is excellent when a person looks at it. An agent at 3 a.m. has nobody looking, and afterwards it needs to know what happened.

SocialClaw fix: socialclaw validate -f schedule.json --json checks the whole schedule before anything is queued, in output the agent can read. After apply, socialclaw status --run-id <id> --json shows every post in the run, and socialclaw posts get --post-id <id> --json shows one post and its attempts.

Several alternatives below cover one or two of those pieces. We found none that document all three in their official materials.

What about approvals?

SocialClaw has no client approval portal and no comment threads on posts. If a client must click Approve on every post, keep Planable for that step.

What it offers instead is a reviewable plan: one schedule file a person can read top to bottom, a validate report, and nothing ships until apply runs. If you want a sign-off, put it there.

Native AI agent integrations

In Claude, add the hosted connector at https://getsocialclaw.com/mcp with OAuth, or install it from Anthropic's Claude plugin directory (needs a Claude login to view). In ChatGPT, install the official SocialClaw app. Everything else is three commands:

npx skills add ndesv21/socialclaw # Claude Code skill
npm i -g socialclaw # CLI for scripts and shell agents
npx -y socialclaw mcp # local MCP server

Three client brands on Planable Pro cost 3 × $59 = $177 a month for 30 pages and 450 posts. SocialClaw Plus covers 20 accounts and 1,000 posts for $67. The trade is real both ways: Planable's price buys required approvals and unlimited reviewers, SocialClaw's buys publishing that runs on its own.

#2 ContentStudio: Best All-in-One Suite with Approvals and an Open API

Overall Rating: 7.9 / 10

ContentStudio is what Planable would look like with the developer door wide open. From its pricing page (reviewed November 3, 2026): Standard is $29/mo ($19 annual) for 5 accounts and 1 user, Advanced is $69/mo ($49 annual) for 10 accounts and 2 users with an approval workflow, and Agency Unlimited is $139/mo ($99 annual) for 25 accounts with unlimited users and workspaces.

API access is on every plan. Its MCP server creates and schedules posts from ChatGPT, Claude Code and Cursor, and its npm CLI ships with an agent skill and a --dry-run flag that prints a request without sending it. Pinterest, Telegram and Bluesky are on its network list.

When ContentStudio makes sense: You want approvals, client workspaces and an agent that schedules instead of drafting, without an Enterprise contract.

When ContentStudio falls short: Approvals start on Advanced with 2 users; unlimited reviewers wait for Agency Unlimited at $139/mo. A provider-rule check and per-attempt delivery history are not described in its official materials, and Reddit, Discord and WordPress are not on its list.

#3 Vista Social: Best for Multi-Stage Client Approvals

Overall Rating: 7.6 / 10

Vista Social is a full agency suite whose approval tooling comes closest to Planable's. From its pricing page (reviewed November 3, 2026): Professional is $99/mo ($950/yr) for 15 profiles and 2 users with single-stage approval workflows, Advanced is $199/mo ($1,910/yr) for 30 profiles and 3 users with multi-stage approvals for internal teams, outside teams and clients, and Scale is $449/mo ($4,310/yr) for 70 profiles and 4 users with white-label reports and dashboards. X is a $29/mo add-on, and Reddit is on its network list.

Its MCP server is the broadest here: "100+ tools for scheduling, analytics, inbox, ideas, media and reporting" on all paid plans, for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others. It can schedule posts and work the approval queue within each user's role. More in our Vista Social alternatives guide.

When Vista Social makes sense: Posts pass through a team lead, then a client, and you want an assistant that can schedule and clear the approval queue.

When Vista Social falls short: Users. After Planable's unlimited reviewers, 2 to 4 included users per plan will pinch, and its REST API needs Enterprise or a paid add-on.

#4 SocialPilot: Best Budget Pick for Client Approvals

Overall Rating: 7.3 / 10

SocialPilot is the value play for agencies that need clients to approve. Its plans page (reviewed November 3, 2026) lists Essentials at $30/mo ($25.50 annual) for 7 accounts and 1 user, Standard at $50 ($42.50) for 15 accounts and 3 users with manager approval, Premium at $100 ($85) for 25 accounts and 6 users with client approval, white-label reports and unlimited client seats, and Ultimate at $200 ($170) for 50 accounts and unlimited users.

Its MCP server is on every plan and, per SocialPilot, can create and schedule posts, save drafts for review, and check scheduled, published or failed posts. The REST API is Enterprise only. See our SocialPilot alternatives guide.

When SocialPilot makes sense: You want client approval at a fixed plan price. Premium covers 25 accounts for $100/mo; on Planable Pro, that buys fewer than two workspaces.

When SocialPilot falls short: Team members are capped below Ultimate, and Reddit, Discord, Telegram and WordPress are not on its ten-network list.

#5 Buffer: Best Simple Scheduler with a Free API

Overall Rating: 7.0 / 10

Buffer is the cleanest scheduler here and the only one with API keys on its free plan. Its pricing page (reviewed November 3, 2026) lists Free for 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each, Essentials at $5 per channel a month billed yearly ($60 a year), and Team at $10 per channel billed yearly ($120 a year) with unlimited users and content approval workflows.

MCP access is "included on every plan, including Free", and the assistant can create and schedule posts from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and more. More in our Buffer alternatives guide.

When Buffer makes sense: A small team wants a simple queue, light approvals and a free API to experiment with.

When Buffer falls short: Approvals wait for Team, per-channel pricing adds up across client brands, and client workspaces with separate approval flows are not on its plan list.

#6 Agorapulse: Best for Inbox-Led Teams

Overall Rating: 6.9 / 10

Agorapulse is for teams whose day starts in the inbox. Its pricing page (reviewed November 3, 2026) lists Standard at $79/user/mo annual ($99 monthly), Professional at $119 ($149) with simple approval workflows and Advanced at $149 ($199), each with 10 profiles. Its MCP connector is on every plan, and its support article says it creates drafts but does not publish or schedule. See our Agorapulse alternatives guide.

When Agorapulse makes sense: Comments, DMs and the monthly client report matter more than the approval screen.

When Agorapulse falls short: Its agent stops at drafts, the same wall as Planable, and pricing is per user: five people on Professional cost $595 a month on annual billing.

#7 Metricool: Best Analytics-First Option

Overall Rating: 6.7 / 10

Metricool leads with analytics. Its pricing page (reviewed November 3, 2026) lists a free plan for 1 brand and 20 posts a month (no LinkedIn or X) with Metricool MCP, Starter at $25/mo ($20 annual) for 5 brands, and Advanced at $67/mo ($53 annual) for 15 brands with post approvals and the API. X is $10/mo per account. Its help center shows the MCP creating scheduled posts.

When Metricool makes sense: Clients buy reports first, and you want the analytics Planable sells as a $14 add-on built in.

When Metricool falls short: Approvals and the API both wait for Advanced, and X costs extra per account. Full breakdown in our Metricool alternatives guide.

#8 Publer: Best Per-Account Value

Overall Rating: 6.6 / 10

Publer charges per social account instead of per workspace. Its help center (updated September 15, 2026) lists a free plan for up to 3 accounts (no X), Professional from $5/mo and Business from $10/mo with approval workflows, 20% off yearly. Its API docs list 13 networks, including Telegram, WordPress and Bluesky.

When Publer makes sense: You want cheap scheduling across many networks, and approvals are occasional.

When Publer falls short: Approvals wait for Business, and Publer limits API and MCP access to eligible Business and Enterprise customers. Full breakdown in our Publer alternatives guide.

#9 Sendible: Best for Unlimited Users and Client Dashboards

Overall Rating: 6.5 / 10

Sendible shares Planable's pricing logic, with workspaces bundled into each plan. Its pricing page (reviewed November 3, 2026) lists Core at $35/mo for 1 workspace and 6 profiles, Plus at $99 for 3 workspaces with approvals, Premium at $199 for 7, and Elite at $299 for 15. Users are unlimited, and clients approve content in their own dashboards.

Three client workspaces with approvals cost $99/mo on Plus, against $117 for three Planable Basic workspaces or $177 on Pro. More in our Sendible alternatives guide.

When Sendible makes sense: An agency wants unlimited users and client dashboards at a lower cost per client.

When Sendible falls short: Its pricing page lists no API, and an MCP server or ChatGPT app is not confirmed in its official materials.

#10 Loomly: Best for Approvals on the Entry Plan

Overall Rating: 6.2 / 10

Loomly is a calendar-first tool with approvals on its entry plan. Its pricing page (reviewed November 3, 2026) lists Starter at $65/mo ($49 yearly) for 12 accounts and 3 users with approval workflows, and Beyond at $332/mo ($249 yearly) for 60 accounts and unlimited users.

When Loomly makes sense: One brand team wants approvals on a shared calendar without paying per workspace. See our Loomly alternatives guide.

When Loomly falls short: Starter includes 3 users, and an API or MCP access is not mentioned on its pricing page.

#11 Hootsuite: Best for Enterprise Governance

Overall Rating: 6.0 / 10

Hootsuite is the enterprise standard for listening and governance. Its plans page (reviewed November 3, 2026) lists Standard at $99, Professional at $199 and Advanced at $399 per user per month on annual billing, with content approval on Advanced. Its Perch MCP server can draft, schedule and publish, while "organizations maintain control over publishing." See our Hootsuite alternatives guide.

When Hootsuite makes sense: A large organization needs approvals, SSO and listening across departments.

When Hootsuite falls short: Seats. Five approvers on Advanced cost $1,995 a month on annual billing; Planable gives them all a login for the price of one workspace.

#12 Sprout Social: Best for Enterprise Social Care

Overall Rating: 5.8 / 10

Sprout Social is strongest when social is a support channel. Its pricing page (reviewed November 3, 2026) lists Essentials at $79/seat/mo annual ($99 monthly), then Standard at $199, Professional at $299 and Advanced at $399 per seat. Its help center places message approvals on Professional and Advanced; only Advanced includes the Sprout API, whose publishing endpoints create drafts. See our Sprout Social alternatives guide.

When Sprout Social makes sense: A support team needs social care tools alongside approvals.

When Sprout Social falls short: Per-seat pricing with approvals from $299 a seat, and an API that still ends in drafts.

The SocialClaw publishing workflow: connect, upload media, validate, schedule and publish.

SocialClaw Workflow in 60 Seconds

Here is the validate → apply → inspect loop from a terminal. An agent in ChatGPT or Claude runs the same steps through the app or the MCP connector.

npm i -g socialclaw
socialclaw login --api-key <key>
socialclaw accounts connect --provider reddit --open # a network Planable lacks
socialclaw accounts list --json
socialclaw assets upload --file ./launch.png --json # stable public URL
socialclaw validate -f schedule.json --json # check before anything is queued
# sign-off point: a person reads schedule.json and the validate output
socialclaw apply -f schedule.json --json
socialclaw status --run-id <id> --json # what happened, per post
socialclaw posts get --post-id <id> --json

Every step returns JSON the agent reads before it runs the next one, and a human yes fits in one place: between validate and apply.

Migrating from Planable to SocialClaw

Move the publishing that software already does first. Leave client sign-off in Planable until the new loop has earned your trust.

  1. Split the work. Agent-written and scripted posts move first; posts that need a client's click stay in Planable.
  2. Start the trial, connect accounts and upload media, including Reddit, Discord, Telegram or WordPress if you could not reach them before.
  3. Point your agent at SocialClaw through the MCP connector, the ChatGPT app or the Claude Code skill, and have it write the next week as a schedule file.
  4. Validate, apply and inspect the first runs by run ID and post ID before retiring anything in Planable.

FAQs

What is the best Planable alternative?

SocialClaw, if an AI agent, a script or your own product publishes: REST API, CLI and MCP on every plan from $15/mo, with schedules validated before they run. If client approval is the whole job, SocialPilot or Vista Social.

Does Planable have an API?

Yes, on Pro and Enterprise. Planable's API guide says posts created through it "land as drafts" and go through the normal approval flow, and version 1 has no webhooks.

Can ChatGPT or Claude publish through Planable?

Partly. New posts from Planable's MCP connector arrive as drafts, and approval "remains a human-controlled step." The ChatGPT app can approve or publish an existing post if your role allows it, but cannot reliably attach images or video yet.

How much does Planable cost?

$39 per workspace a month on Basic and $59 on Pro ($33 and $49 yearly), with unlimited users. Analytics ($14), the inbox ($9) and listening ($99) are per-workspace add-ons, and the first 50 posts are free.

What is the cheapest Planable alternative?

Buffer or Publer, both with free plans and $5 entry prices. With API and agent access included, SocialClaw Starter is $15/mo.

Which Planable alternatives have the best approval workflows?

Vista Social, for multi-stage approvals across internal teams, outside teams and clients. SocialPilot adds client approval with unlimited client seats on Premium, and Loomly includes approvals on its entry plan.

Does SocialClaw have approval workflows?

Not a client approval portal. A person can review the schedule file and the validate output before apply runs. If clients must click Approve on each post, keep Planable for that step.

Can SocialClaw post to Reddit, Discord, Telegram and WordPress?

Yes. All four are among SocialClaw's 12 networks. None of them are on Planable's channel list.

Final Verdict

Pick by the job you are hiring it for:

  • Every post needs a client's click → stay on Planable
  • Approvals plus an agent that can schedule → ContentStudio or Vista Social
  • Client approvals on a budget → SocialPilot or Sendible
  • The lowest entry price → Buffer or Publer
  • Inbox and reports run the week → Agorapulse or Metricool
  • One brand team, approvals on the entry plan → Loomly
  • Enterprise governance or social care → Hootsuite or Sprout Social
  • An AI agent, a script or your own product does the publishing → SocialClaw

Planable remains the best place on this list to get a post approved. Its MCP connector, ChatGPT app and API all hand the last step back to a person, and for client work that is the point.

When an agent owns the calendar, that last step is the job. SocialClaw is the clear winner there: a validate step the agent can read, a record of every run and attempt, hosted media, 12 networks, and an API, CLI and MCP server on the $15 plan, priced by accounts and posts rather than by workspace.
